With emotion to
less emission

Our path to a climate-neutral trade fair presence at IFAT in Munich

Our aim is to consciously avoid emissions. This means rethinking familiar processes and adopting new approaches. And that can sometimes be uncomfortable and cost additional time and money. But in the end, we are proud of what we have achieved so far. And we get better with every trade fair appearance.

At IFAT 2022, we won first place in the IFAT Sustainability Award – GOLD! Since then, we have been delighted to be working towards becoming even more sustainable with every event we attend. That’s why we’re thrilled to be a confirmed GoGree Exhibitor at this year’s IFAT as well – HURRAH!

Our aim for the exhibition stand: to be carbon neutral. Working with our regional stand builder, damböck – which has been awarded a bronze rating in the EcoVadis sustainability ranking – we scrutinise every single step of the entire value chain and use this to develop solutions that lead to a better environmental footprint. Unavoidable emissions are offset by investing in recognised climate protection projects. We work with Climate Partner to calculate and offset these emissions.

We have taken each component and tried to make it more sustainable. And how? By 1. avoidance, 2. reduction, 3. equalisation. For example, we avoid materials and special constructions that are only used once. This significantly reduces the amount that has to be disposed of after the trade fair. We work exclusively with regional partners who are just as committed to sustainability as we are. Non-recyclable materials and other materials of natural origin are utilised in the stand builder's own pellet heating system.

And our approach to catering: reusable. Plastic-free. Regional. For everything to do with food, we use regional products from local suppliers and vendors. We’re also happy to offer seasonal produce and, where possible, organic options (except for items such as avocados, which unfortunately don’t grow in Bavaria yet 😉 ). We avoid single-use tableware entirely. The crockery is washed on site and reused. You won’t find any single-portion packaging here: coffee cream, sugar and sauces are served from small jugs or dispensers. We use reusable packaging and recyclable cling film.
We do without printed brochures. The paper saved saves resources. Without print production and transport to Munich, there are no emissions at all. In the end, many of the printed brochures usually end up in the rubbish or have to be transported back again. There are QR codes all over the stand and on our vehicles. These will take you to our website with detailed information and digital brochures.

Our custom-built structures are made from untreated, PEFC-certified softwood sourced from Europe, and are manufactured in Italy and Austria. Between trade fairs, they do not gather dust in warehouses, but are put to use at our sites across Germany.

We source our seasonal plants from the Augustinum Nursery in Hollern, Oberschleißheim. There, 90 people with intellectual disabilities work under the professional guidance of experienced horticultural engineers, master gardeners, gardeners and social education workers.

You can hardly see it and it costs more: we don't use disposable carpet. We use rented carpet tiles. These are cleaned and replaced after the event.

A second life - We try to throw away as little as possible. We are already planning how and where we can continue to use Ding after the trade fair.

When it comes to cleaning exhibits and stands, it is not possible to avoid the use of chemicals entirely. However, even in this area, we have taken particular care to select a service provider that prioritises sustainability and implements effective environmental management practices. There is considerable scope for improvement, particularly when it comes to the materials used: for example, the team uses reusable spray bottles and cleaning cloths, and cleans using environmentally friendly cleaning products and chemicals that are as non-toxic as possible.
